The 21st Annual Gay Lesbian Against Anti Defamation (GLAAD) Media Awards were announced and the Rev. Byron Williams Pastor/Syndicated columnist was nominated for “Outstanding Newspaper Columnist” category.
Williams was nominated along with Leonard Pitts Jr. (Miami Herald),
Deb Price (Detroit News),
Frank Rich (New York Times), and Craig Wilson (USA Today). “It is always humbling to be recognized for one’s work, but to be acknowledge along with some of the most esteemed writers in our profession is high praise indeed,” Williams said. As the only pastor/syndicated columnist in the country, Williams writes a twice-weekly social/political column for the Oakland Tribune. His column appears in numerous publications and progressive websites nationwide. Williams serves on the African American Religious Affairs Committee for People for the American Way and is Chair of Religious Affairs for the National Black Justice Coalition. Williams' forthcoming book project is titled "Inconvenient Love: Essays by African American Clergy and Theologians in support of LGBT Rights." With 152 nominees and 32 categories, the GLAAD Media Awards will be held in three cities New York (March 13), Los Angeles (April 17) and San Francisco (June 5).
